Department of Indian Affairs and Northern
Development (DIAND) / Environment Canada - Development of an NWT-Wide
Cumulative Effects Assessment and Management Strategy and Framework
(1999- ongoing)
DPRA Canada has been providing consulting services for the development of a Cumulative Effects Assessment and Management (CEAM) Strategy and Framework for the Northwest Territories, based on direction from a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee. The work has included research and discussion paper development (including an analysis of the current context, gaps and challenges, and 'lessons learned') and the development of the 'Blueprint for Implementation of the CEAM Strategy and Framework in the NWT and its Regions' (Revised November 2003) and a draft 'Regional Plan of Action for the Slave Geological Province' (December 2002). As part of this process, team members conducted interviews with a range of stakeholders - Aboriginal, federal and territorial government agencies, non-government organizations, industry representatives and practitioners. Over 35 Steering Committee meetings, four major stakeholder workshops, and meetings related to the development of regional plans of action have been organized and documented.
